Hot Cruise Destination: Alaska
16 Nov 2017
With its wonderful wildlife, scenic landscapes, and glistening glaciers, it’s clear to understand why Alaska is such a popular cruise destination. The Alaskan cruise season runs from May until September. Over the past few years, Alaska has seen a surge in popularity, resulting in some of the top cruise lines expanding their capacity in the region with some of their newest and largest ships over the next few years. For the first time in 20 years, Cunard will be returning to Alaska with the luxurious Queen Elizabeth. Offering an observation capsule 300ft above the sea, Royal Caribbean International’s Ovation of the Seas is sure to be a hit. With native sea life emblazoned on the hull, a race track on top deck, and an expansive forward observation lounge, Norwegian Cruise Line is sending its brand new Norwegian Bliss to Alaska.
Juneau
Alaska’s remote capital, Juneau is a popular cruise ship destination, and is only accessible by boat or seaplane – there’s no roads leading out! From Juneau, a popular excursion is a helicopter ride to the gigantic 1.5 mile long Mendenhall Glacier.
Inside Passage
The Inside Passage is a breathtaking natural waterway that cruise ships regularly ply. Sail up close to majestic glaciers and maybe catch a sight of a whale. Relax on deck as you wind through this labyrinth of fjords and islands.
Ketchikan
Ketchikan is the ‘Salmon Capital of the World’ so make sure to visit a local seafood restaurant for the daily catch and enjoy some of the freshest salmon you’ll ever taste. With lush forests, encounter bears catching salmon as they swim upstream.
