‘Astonishing’ Premiere onboard Britannia

On a sunny Sunday in Southampton we made our way to Ocean Terminal to board P&O’s Britannia. We were invited to watch the premiere of ‘Astonishing’, a new show produced by BAFTA winning presenter and entertainer Stephen Mulhern and performer Jonny Wilkes. Let me say, astonishing is the one word that sums the show up.
Heading to the cruise terminal on a red carpet, we were greeted by various magicians treating you to up close and personal magic, a great way to get the audience in the mood for the big show stoppers ready to impress us later in the day. Before entering the terminal there was a photo opportunity with the main men themselves, who spent the time to have a quick word with everyone before we stepped on board.
After a glass of champagne in Britannia’s Crystal Room, it was time to head to the Headliners Theatre for the show we had all been waiting for. Before entering the theatre we were given gold envelopes which we were told not to open until Stephen’s say so, this became apparent why during the show…
The show starts with an introduction from Stephen on the screens which fades the room to black. We are then greeted with an explosion of colour with performers in brightly coloured outfits dancing and singing and then it’s on to the first bit of magic. Without giving too much away there are fascinating tricks including disappearing acts, floating illusions and a escape act that would give Harry Houdini a run for his money.
If you are still thinking about that gold envelope mentioned earlier, this was all part of an interactive magic trick where you perform the trick yourself. Leaving the room in shock, it’s a trick that will be sure to convert those non believers, and leaving a smile on your face with the thought of ‘how did he do that?!’
This show was a great mix of singing, dancing and magic and it had everyone gasping, dancing, clapping and singing through-out. This is great fun and perfect for all the family.

We’ve partnered with some of the best in the business – Guy Barrett, who is Mr Illusion, and Paul Domaine, who has worked with Kylie Minogue, Elton John and Stevie Wonder – and we’ve come up with a show that is truly groundbreaking.”
With celebrities such as Dec Donnelly and Ben Shepherd coming to show their support on the day, this can only be a positive for the world of cruising. This show brings P&O Cruises to the forefront of the holiday market with these celebrity endorsements, showing that cruises are suitable for the whole family and not just the older generation as people stereotype!
