Introducing Vasco da Gama
18 May 2018
Cruise & Maritime Voyages has an exciting brand new addition joining the fleet in 2019. Let us introduce you to Vasco da Gama…
Named after the Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama is a 1,220 passenger cruise ship offering a premium cruising experience, when she joins the Cruise & Maritime Voyages fleet in April 2019. Combining beautiful, contemporary decor with a more traditional cruising style, Vasco da Gama will expand Cruise & Maritime Voyages range of exotic international cruises in Australia, as well as exploration cruises from Germany. As such, the ship will also operate under German sister-brand Transocean Kreuzfahrten.
The 55,820 grt Vasco da Gama has nine passenger decks offering an impressive range of comfortable and spacious accommodation, as well as a variety of diverse public spaces, including a three-deck-high lobby.
Out of the 630 beautiful cabins on board Vasco da Gama, 80% benefit from a view of the ocean and 120 cabins feature a private balcony veranda. A further 29 spacious suites also have private balconies. The largest and most impressive suite onboard is the Royal Penthouse. Measuring a stately 1095sqft this suite is located forward on Navigator Deck 10 and comprises of a spacious sitting area with sofa, a giant king-sized bed which can be partitioned off from the main room, and a soothing whirlpool bath. The luxurious De Luxe Suites are also situated on Deck 10 – the highest accommodation deck – and though smaller than the Royal Penthouse, still feature a sitting area, a drinks counter, plus en-suite facilities with a bath.
Vasco da Gama offers a choice of three main restaurants, all with uniquely themed decor. The Waterfront, Waterfront Mediterranean, and Waterfront Eurasia. Spanning two floors and offering views of the wake, guests will be in awe with the sense of space and feel of glamour. Unlike other ships in the fleet, Vasco da Gama will offer flexible dining, rather than fixed dining times. This means you are free to dine when and with whom you like, offering you the choice to dine with new travel companions you may have met on board. The ship also has two delightful speciality restaurants available for a supplement. The Grill serves succulent cuts of steak, where as food lovers and wine connoisseurs will love the Chef’s Table experience. For an alternative dining experience, or for a hearty lunch, enjoy buffet style meals at Club Bistro.
The main two-tiered show lounge is called Hollywood’s, where you’ll be able to enjoy ‘big show’ entertainment from the talented singers and dancers. From its unique vantage point above the bridge, The Dome is a delightful venue to relax on a sea day and watch the world go by. At night, this is the place to be to dance the night away. Head to the Blue Room to enjoy a drink listening to the soulful wonders of the resident musicians. The Captain’s Club is a cosy piano bar, and the Grill Bar is another elegant music venue.
Vasco da Gama features a well-appointed fitness area and spa complex, with various amenities and beauty facilities, all with stunning views of the sea. Out on deck, you’ll be impressed with the amount of space. The ship has two pools. The stylish Main Pool can be enjoyed in all weather conditions thanks to a retractable roof. Unwind by the Oasis Pool, a tranquil outdoor pool area overlooking the aft. For those who want to stay active, the full-sized sports court will be a popular place to enjoy a game of tennis.
